With their various releases receiving airplay in five of the six continents, including frequent exposure in the UK on Radio 1, BBC 1Xtra, XFM and many more, the Foreign Beggars profile is rising.
As well as several TV appearances by all members of the crew, the promo for Slow Broiled Ilk was recently playlisted for MTV Base and Orifice and DJ Nonames also now host Mic Check a weekly hip hop show on BBC Asian network. With mix-tapes in USA, Canada, Germany, Norway, Spain, Sweden, France, Dubai, UK, Lebanon, Holland, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Serbia, Switzerland, Chile, Brazil and Columbia, their fan base is as international as they are, and is a driving force behind their success.
LP: “STRAY POINT AGENDA” (October 2006)
Review:
The second installation from the Beggar Camp, Stray Point Agenda has a more introspective tone than their debut Asylum Speakers. A darker, edgier beast than its predecessor, with featured production by Stonesthrow protege Oh No and Ninja Tunes DJ Vadim, the release re-establishes the Foreign Beggars benchmark, but with a lyrical maturity that puts the album in a more progressive context. With rappers Orifice and Metropolis dealing with a variety of subversive topics from conscious socio-political realism to sci-fi horror core, the listener is confronted with their typically schizophrenic approach to life, love, spirituality and death. With featured guest spots from Dr. Syntax, Skrein, Dubbledge, Graziella, Wildchild and Dudley Perkins, the album spans the spectrum of rhyming styles from straight punchline to complex multi-syllabic flows patterns, doing justice to Dag Nabbit’s trademark versatility of dark electro synthesized basses, intricate sample work and filthy drums on futuristic soundscapes.
